Valerio Russo (b. 1992, Turin, Italy) lives and works in Turin. Russo is a self-taught painter with a background in architecture, having earned both his Bachelor and Master degrees at the Politecnico di Torino. He has participated in a growing number of exhibitions across Europe and the United States, presenting work in cities such as Dubai, Berlin, Milan, Madrid, and New York. He debuted at Spectrum Miami in 2025, marking his first participation in an international art fair.

His portrait work includes commissions for international guitarist Stef Burns and Luca “Cipo” Sperindio, the official Italian impersonator of Zucchero Fornaciari.

Artist statement

​

I paint what I see, and immediately after, what I no longer see.
The face, the street, the sky: everything appears sharp for a moment, then cracks and reshapes itself into the uncertain form of memory. It is in that fracture that my images are born.

​

I come from architecture, from clear and measurable structures; yet in painting I seek what slips away, what is lost in the passage between perception and emotion. Each work begins with a concrete observation - a body, an object, a landscape - and then drifts into the space where memory distorts, dissolves, erases, and holds on.

​

In some works the image is almost intact, reflecting a memory that feels nearer; in others it begins to shift, blur or fade.

​

My paintings are made of these oscillations: fullness and void, apparitions and disappearances. I am not interested in representing exactly what lies before me, but what remains when the image inevitably fractures.
